In today's search for ageless beauty, the movie “The Age of
Adaline” depicts an unraveling tale of what “forever young” would really mean
to someone who is experiencing it. This movie is centered around Adaline, a
woman, who after an almost fatal accident, becomes trapped in her current age,
becoming a literal ageless woman.
Although the plot is tinged with fantasy because of this
occurrence, everything else in the movie seems like a very realistic depiction
of the decades lives by main character, portrayed by the beautiful Blake Lively
of the hit show “Gossip Girl”.
The Mothers Diary is excited to feature her upcoming movie in our
MD Movie Picks, because we’ve seen her grow as an actress, and she appears to
be a very fit candidate for this role; “The Age of Adaline” is Blake Lively’s
biggest acting role after her hit TV series..
Going back to the movie, it is a classical almost period-type film
as it goes through more than 8 decades of time throughout Adaline’s life. The
character has to bear with a lot of goodbyes, and is forced to live a secret
life because she continuously outlived almost all of the people she met. Creating
new personas and identities every now and then, she found secretive was to justify
her existence.
The teaser trailer shows us that the only person who knew her
secret was her daughter, and their relationship while her daughter was growing
up and becoming older than her, is one of the touching parts of the film.
Adaline does meet possible romantic partners only to turn them
down because of her secret life. However, there is one person who may change
her mind about her secretive existence, and that is what you viewers will have
to find out for yourselves.
This classic-themed movie promises to be a mother-daughter, cum
Nicholas Sparks-type romantic story that might make some tear up. We expect it
to be similar to “The Curious Life of Benjamin Button” in its fantastical
telling of life, the progression of age, and those who are left behind in a
world where age just isn’t as concrete as it is in reality.
In terms of the technical aspects of the movie, the continuity is
almost perfect, as the characters that outlived Adaline appropriately depicted
their roles and smoothly transitioned into their “older” characters. The
wardrobe used was very reminiscent of the time frame, and it is evident that
the designers have really worked hard to do just that.
And with Ms. Lively’s performance being up to par with her
Hollywood contemporaries, we here at The Mothers Diary expect that this film
will catapult her into being in the league of the major stars of today.
We also anticipate that this movie will earn moderate box office
revenue, and be rated at around four stars. We will all let you know if the
film lives up to our expectations once we get to its review.
