The Long Wait is Over: Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge is here!

After months and months of guessing, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, finally announced the name of their Royal Princess – Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, who will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.

Kensington palace made the announcement via Twitter three days after Princess Charlotte was born.

Most news agencies said the name was a sentimental choice given that Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles, who is of course, Prince Charles, the baby’s grandfather. Elizabeth, is of course England’s Queen, who is her royal highness’ great grandmother. And then Diana, after Prince William’s beloved mother. The name Charlotte is also shared by Duchess Kate’s Sister, Pippa, who has Charlotte as her middle name.

Most Royal Historians are saying that “Charlotte” was more than just a sentimental choice, as it seems that the couple personally likes the name too. Well, Charlotte after all has been a name used by a number of royals, including King George III’s wife, Queen Charlotte. The 18^th century royal couple were one of the first to live at the Buckingham Palace back when it was still called Queen’s House.
