Where is Walter Palmer? Hunters Released on $1000 Bail

Today on our nightly news brief we talk about Dr. Walter Palmer and the backlash he has received from the media over the course of the past few days in regards to the killing of Cecil the Lion; as a result, Palmer has not been seen outside of his home or his dental practice.  The public is wondering where the US dentist is holding out, and many have engaged in mass protest outside of his dental practice in Minnesota.

Earlier today actress Mia Farrow also received immediate backlash for publishing the address of Walter Palmer's dental practice via Twitter; some claimed that her actions were in complete disregard for Palmer's family and children. However, Walter Palmer's dental practice address is public information and readily available on Google and other search engines sites, leaving many to defend Farrow.

After the doctor's name was published as the killer of Cecil the Lion,  he close the doors to his practice and took his website down. The doctor issued a statement apologizing to his patients for the inconvenience caused by all the protests and banners left outside of his practice, which has been the cause for many cancelled appointments.

In the neighborhood of his practice, many residents are saying that they don't believe that Palmer will ever be able to practice dentistry in the area again, while others say they must wait and see if all of the media attention subsides, however, a great deal of dissatisfaction and disgust over the killing of the cherished lion remains.

Cecil the Lion was killed on July 1, 2015 while Walter Palmer was on a big game hunting trip with a hunting guide and a local land owner in Zimbabwe. Reports state that Cecil was lured out of his preserve in the Zimbabwe Hwange National Park using an animal carcass. Once he was out of the protection of the preserve, he was shot by Palmer with a crossbow and tracked for 40 hours while the animal was dying. Once they caught up with him he was killed with a rifle, beheaded and skinned. Cecil was a collared lion, a part of a long-standing conservation research effort launched by Oxford University; his collar was illegally removed after he was killed and some reports claim that the perpetrators attempted to destroy the collar to eliminate evidence.

Palmer is said to have paid over $50,000 to participate in this illegal hunt.

The two other men involved in the killing of Cecil, Theo Bronchorst (Professional Hunter) and Trymore Ndlovu (Landowner), were arrested. They were recently released on a $1000 bail, and both face up to 10 years in prison on poaching charges. However, Walter Palmer has yet to be charged or included in the investigation, which has caused much uproar in the conservation community and with Americans and Zimbabweans is as a whole.

Many Americans are publicly calling for justice for Cecil the Lion and apologizing to the world, stating that not all Americans are like Walter Palmer. Jimmy Kimmel took a few minutes out of his late show to address the issue as well.

In a public statement issued by Walter Palmer, he claimed to regret ever killing Cecil:
"I regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion."
A petition requesting that Walter Palmer be extradited to Zimbabwe to face charges was reported by ABC news as having reached over 100,000 signatures:
Other media personalities also came forward, Sir Roger Moore stated that trophy hunting was a "sick perversion".
While Mia Farrow's previous tweet was deleted, she did tweet for everyone to support her in pressuring global airlines to stop transport porting hunting trophies:
We do not currently know where dentist Walter Palmer is, but I believe he knows where we are and where the world stands in regards to his disgusting disregard for the conservation of one of the worlds most majestic animals.

It is said that now Cecil's clubs are at risk of being killed by other male lions trying to take over the pride. Thousands and even millions of dollars spent on research and the funding of conservation has gone down the drain with the death of one of the worlds oldest research animals.
