Petsitting Services for Traveling Families

Having pets is great and a rewarding experience, but where we were all run into the same problem when we have to find petsitting services for traveling families. Here are a few services that can help with that.

Care.com

Care.com has an extensive database of caregivers were willing to pet sit your beloved furry friends either in your home or in their own home. Care.com also lists organizations and companies that will allow you to kennel your dog with them.

Rover.com

Rover.com is a relatively new one that we started seeing commercials for. Rover.com offers a database of caregivers who are willing to babysit your pet, either in your home or in their own home, and also has more pet services such as individuals who are willing to walk your dog, groom your dog and basically anything pet related.

Your Vet

Most people don't know this, but you can ask your vet if he offers vacation kenneling. Many veterinarians offer this as an ad on service for families who are interested in taking trips but have nowhere to leave their pets.

You'll notice that whenever you have to leave your dog or cat overnight at the vet's office for a procedure or for observation, there are various empty kennels in the back room. These also double as pet sitting kennels. So ask your vet if he offers the service.

Standalone Pet Resorts

In the last recent years many standalone pet resorts have surfaced throughout the country. Search online for "pet resorts "in your city and you'll most likely find an affordable option for you to kennel your dog.

These are usually the best option as they offer a full staff of caregivers that actively partake in the feeding and bathing of all of the pets in their care and take turns emotionally connecting with them so your pets don't feel lonely. Pet resorts usually have a large lot were dogs and cats can go out to play and spacious rooms for them to sleep in, so that they are not cramped in an actual kennel.

Avoidances and Warnings

Try to avoid uncredited ad listing sites when looking for a pet sitter. Many individuals troll these sites looking for families with expensive pedigree dogs. They'll put in an ad response which seems legitimate, but once you leave your dog in their hands, they are most likely going to disappear with your pet and begin breeding them and selling the puppies for an expensive price.

It may be appealing for your dog to be able to stay in their own home being cared for by a pet sitter willing to come to your home. But be very wary as these are strangers and you may never know what they may be up to.

Whenever possible, bring your dog's pet food with them to whichever sitting agency or company you choose. Most of these locations offer free food during the kenneling, but if your dog is on a strict diet you cannot expect them to carry the same brand and type that your dog needs.

Always make sure that your dog has a full list of vaccinations, heartworm protection, and any other medical protection against outside vulnerabilities. A pet sitter may take your pet for a walk in a location that is not as vigorously treated as your own backyard. Never opt for a pet sitter if you have an exceptionally aggressive dog as you may be leaving yourself open for an attack, lawsuit, and incurred medical expenses from the victim; even if they say they're used to dealing with aggressive dogs.
