Richard Matt is reported as dead, shot by the State Police. The events occurred in the inner woods in upstate New York today Friday, June 26. The prisoner who accompanied Matt, David Sweat is still being pursued, believed to be near Lake Titus.
Matt's DNA was recovered from a motel room about ten miles away from where police ultimately caught up with him and killed him; it has not been reported what lead to the shooting.
The two prisoners escaped from Clinton Correction Facility on June 6.
