A man was dealt an unimaginable blow when he uncovered that a child he had conceived with his now ex had been sold for less than £100; worse yet, he had been told by his ex that the child had been aborted, and he was unaware she was even alive until now!

In a story first reported by Mirror, Steven North was convinced by his girlfriend, Vikky Gilmore, that the pregnancy that the two had conceived together had been effectively terminated after the two had separated. The reality was the complete opposite of what he was led to believe. Vikki Gilmore reportedly sold their daughter to her friend, Chris Yates, after registering him as the child's father. The callous scheme had gone on for three years before it had been discovered.

The pair had gone to great lengths to keep their secret hidden from the rest of the world; even creating a fake online personality of a "surrogate mother" and duped social workers, midwives and a register into believing their story. They went on to claim that they were both the legitimate mother and father of the baby girl they named Brooke.

Steven reportedly had a three-month relationship with Gilmore back in 2010. In an interview he claimed to be excited when he was told that they would be expecting. The romance was short-lived, and a few months later, Gilmore told him that she had terminated the pregnancy.

Gilmore later gave birth to baby Brooke without Steven's knowledge, and she later sold the child to her gay friend Yates who had been wanting a child of his own.

The pair set out to create a fake Facebook page for a woman they called "Clare Green", who they also claimed to be the surrogate of the new baby. Clare was even given a personality, and Yates claimed that she was a lesbian lawyer to help him with his dream of having a baby. Things did not go as planned, as many friends became suspicious of the new situation and of the fictitious Clare Green. Friends claim that identical spelling mistakes on Green and Yates's profile pages were dead giveaways.

After almost being discovered, Yates moved from Perth into a flat located and Glasgow, where he raise the child as his own. However social workers there immediately placed Brooke in child protective services, claiming that she was at risk of sexual abuse because Yates's father was a convicted pedophile.

Other friends claim that after seeing the baby they couldn't help but notice the uncanny resemblance to her biological father. The same friends told Steve about their encounter with the baby, who then set out to uncover whether or not Brooke was the child he had thought dead for three years. He confronted Yates, who told him that he had inseminated Green with a turkey baster.

After starting civil proceedings, Steven was awarded the right to a DNA test, which proved that Brooke was his daughter; he was then granted full custody of the child.

After the sham had been uncovered, both Yates and Gilmore were arrested, and during yesterday's trial, the pair were found guilty by unanimous jury.
