5 Things to Look Forward to when you have an Empty Nest

Having an empty nest can be a very depressing life event for many parents, however, you can turn that around and make use of all the extra free time you and your spouse now have to devote to each other. Here are 5 things to look forward to when you have an empty nest:

1. Endless Bedrooms, Endless Possibilities

When you first purchased your home or rented your apartment, you made sure that each of your children had their own bedroom or at least two to a room. Now that they've gone off to college, gotten married, or just moved out, you have endless possibilities and space to create a personal space for you and your spouse. You can use these extra bedrooms to host more guests or add specialized rooms to your home. Try converting these rooms into:

  • A library
  • An office
  • A writing space
  • A home gym
  • A home theater
  • A deluxe closet
  • A dressing room for her
  • A den
  • A man cave
  • A drawing room
2. Vacation Time

Now that your kids are out of the house, you most likely have many vacation days saved up throughout your career, you can now use this time to go on a romantic trip to Europe, go on a safari in Africa, or just relax in the Caribbean with tropical drinks and scenery. Consider these trip options:
  • A transatlantic cruise to Europe on the English liner, Cunard, the company which owns the Queen Mary II and was once the White Star Line, makers of the Titanic; today the liner offers unparalleled luxury.
  • A Caribbean cruise that takes you to the various islands. Experience everything the Caribbean has the offer in one trip.
  • Take a luxury train ride around the mountains and hills of California.
  • Book a flight to Venice, Rome, or Italy and immerse yourself in the rich history of some of the oldest cities in the world.
  • Take a spiritual trip to Jerusalem, Asia, Israel, or Mecca and get in touch with your true beliefs and religion.
3. Less Cooking

Now that most of your chicks have left the nest, you don't have a necessity to cook a full dinner every single night. You and your spouse can now enjoy simply heating up a personal TV dinner, or eating out for much less than you were previously able to do. Cook if you want to, don't cook if you don't want to.

4. Lower Bills

Remember those days when everyone in the household took two showers a day and stayed in the shower for 45 minutes or more. Yes, those were the days when your water bills, heating bills and electric bills were through the roof. But now that it's just you and your spouse, your bills will be significantly lower and you can eliminate some bills all together.

5. Going Out, Doing Nothing

You can use this time to go out anytime you want or do nothing at all. You no longer have three children asking you to do things for them or find things for them or do everything for them, you can lay back and just relax every day or go out every single night.

Your empty-nesters now, enjoy it!
