Immediately, I could tell that these two protagonists were tied together by heartstrings, something classic. Reminiscent of "Not Since You", one of Desmond Harrington's starring roles, these two reunite by means of a familiar connection and have to face the old wounds that love's unexpected heartaches can often cause. By the request of an old friend, both are placed together in the same house after a tragedy and forced to dissect and overcome the life that got in the way of their love.
About the Movie:
Trying to run away from his undesirable abusive family, Dawson tries to regain his life and self confidence while dating Amanda Collier, and he's taken in by a kind old widower named Tuck who allows him to set roots in his home. Serving as a backdrop of morality and stability for Dawson, Tuck watches their love blossom while his private ways become less hardened by Amanda's forward, stubborn and lively ways.
Liana Liberato does an amazing job portraying young Amanda Collier, vibrant, persistent, wholeheartedly believing in love's wonders. She becomes the embodiment of young love. She also looks a bit like adult Amanda, while young Dawson looks nothing like adult Dawson.
"What'l I Do" by Irving Berlin is written into the movie like the soundtrack to love, affecting Tuck, Amanda and Dawson, seemingly becoming a generational anthem for identifying one's soulmate.
throughout the movie, you're left rooting for these two to find love in one another again, but this movie has the faint aura of a Shakespearean tragedy; you'll have to watch it to understand.
Overall I give this movie a 4.5 star rating for its amazing plot, acting and the air of relatable content it had. The last .5 left off is regarding the casting of young Dawson Collier.
What I don't Like
The actor cast as young Dawson Cole could have been chosen better. This guy looks about 30 including the grown man's physique portraying a teenager. Not easy to keep that out of your mind when you're trying to unfold a teenage love story in your head, but he is handsome, so that's a plus.
